Are You Feeling Cindy?

Who else grew up on a steady diet of Brady Bunch reruns?

I remember sitting at the hearth with my peanut butter sandwich after school watching the Brady kids and Gilligan’s Island before being shooed outside to “Go play.” (Later years brought General Hospital and the Luke and Laura saga but that’s another conversation.)

Do you remember the episode when Cindy gets selected to be on an academic team that’s going to compete live on tv? She’s pretty full of herself for weeks beforehand and driving her brothers and sisters crazy.

The big day comes and she’s ready. With a new dress, hair in an awesome 60s updo, she takes her place in front of the camera with her team.

Then, they go live.

She locks in on the big red light of the television camera and, she freezes. Like a deer in headlights but with giant blue eyes.

How many of us have felt like this when someone asks us “So, what do you do?” Or, when you have the opportunity to stand up at a networking event and tell a room full of people what you do and why you do it?

Maybe you don’t actually freeze, but you certainly stumble through it. When you finish you have pleasant nods but no real interest. Or, someone may ask, “What is it you do again, exactly?”

When you’re super clear about your core brand message people are more likely to respond with, “Oh, I need to hire you!” or, “I know exactly who I’m going to send your way.” They understand exactly who and how you serve.

You have decades of experience. You’re a master at what you do. Your messaging should reflect this.

When you try to be everything to everyone you become white noise in the busy online space. Remember, you need to simplify to stand out.

If you’re struggling to figure out what to say and how to say it, or, if you don’t know exactly what makes you different from others offering what you do, reach out.

I’d love to talk to you about my Core 5 Framework and how it can help you nail down your core brand message. I’d love to help make marketing your business a lot easier.

“As an entrepreneur with over 25 years’ of experience, I thought I understood how to craft a brand that accurately reflects who I am and what I stand for – but I was wrong. Michelle has an uncanny ability to listen to what her clients say, identify the gems that are there waiting to be discovered, and turn them into pure marketing gold.”
